Unidentified men reportedly opened fire in the Kangchup foothills, Kangpokpi district near Imphal on Tuesday, resulting in nine people getting injured, including two Manipur police officers and a woman. The incident occured after a large group from Meitei community, including women from Phayeng, went to Kangchup hillside to 'investigate' if some individuals from a different community had entered the area. Upon arrival, suspected militants from the hills initiated the gunfire. Subsequently, village volunteers and security forces arrived at the scene, leading to a fierce exchange of gunfire.
